I believe I might have carpal tunnel. help!?

I recently learned how to play piano about a year ago. I used to be fine when I used to write, but ever since this year my right hand seems to hurt. I text and it does not hurt. I used to text quite alot, but have cut down. Now when I place on my right hand on a computer keyboard, or my piano my right hand becomes sore and it hurts. It hurts the most when I write. My mother is saying ';Learn how to write with your left hand'; gee that could take some work lol. But I guess what my question is, how do I know if there is something wrong with my hand... If I have carpal tunnel..? My mother says I should really go see a doctor. advice please.I believe I might have carpal tunnel. help!?
my father( plays bass. wrist bent while doing so) had carpel tunnel. as far a i know it wasn't too bad and it went away after not playing for a while.
