I don't think this is philosophy but I would like your thoughts on this anyway?

This is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore of Alabama. What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with it? Why or why not?





America the Beautiful,


or so you used to be.


Land of the Pilgrims' pride;


I'm glad they'll never see.





Babies piled in dumpsters,


Abortion on demand,


Oh, sweet land of liberty;


your house is on the sand.





Our children wander aimlessly


poisoned by cocaine,


Choosing to indulge their lusts,


when God has said abstain.





From sea to shining sea,


our Nation turns away


From the teaching of God's love


and a need to always pray.





We've kept God in our temples,


how callous we have grown.


When earth is but His footstool,


and Heaven is His throne.





We've voted in a government


that's rotting at the core,


Appointing Godless Judges


who throw reason out the door,





Too soft to place a killer


in a well deserved tomb,


But brave enough to kill a baby


before he leaves the womb.





You think that God's not angry,


that our land's a moral slum?


How much longer will He wait


before His judgment comes?





How are we to face our God,


from Whom we cannot hide?


What then is left for us to do,


but stem this evil tide?





If we who are His children,


will humbly turn and pray;


Seek His holy face


and mend our evil way:





Then God will hear from Heaven


and forgive us of our sins,


He'll heal our sickly land


and those who live within.





But, America the Beautiful,


if you don't - then you will see,

I think the poem is relatively good (better than i could do), but fails dismally to reflect the diversity of cultures, languages and perspectives that America was founded upon, makes up moden american culture, and makes America great [but i'm speaking from an american perspective clearly].





However, I think America would have a more stable, better understood and admired place in WORLD culture if there was a decrease influence of the God fearing christian bible worshipers in the USA.





I love the freedom of speach thing too... he fails to mention that making America great either..I don't think this is philosophy but I would like your thoughts on this anyway?
I believe there's always hope. And I wouldn't be surprised if the writer commit's either himself or suicide. Poor %@$!1. If the cup looks half empty, get another cup man!
Philosophically speaking ... that poor poor man.





Incredibly narrow point of view from someone who might have a global POV. America is a great country and shaming and pointing fingers only makes him feel above it and others feeling less about the circumstance we live in.





I'd throw that piece of put-down poetry away and look to be uplifted without the hackneyed attempt I read here.





It's this same insane thinking that told us that God left America and allowed/created 9/11 to punish us for our sins.

I like it. And I agree 110%. It makes you wonder what this world is coming too. I heard on Nancy Grace about this Judge who wouldn't send a child moletster to jail becuase he was so short(5 '1';) that she thought he might get picked on. There was a big to do over that. There are too many soft hearted Judges in my opinion. We need more ';Tough Love';

I think Judge Roy Moore needs to decide whether he works for the Church or the State, and realize that oftentimes things written like this are a hindrance to the healing, not a help. This speaks to those who are like-minded, not opposed, to his ideas. I think he's gotten used to judging people on his own, and has forgotten that the ultimate test of a Christian is whether or not they can love others without judgement.





His deep thoughts and rhyming words may be inspiring to some, they are also the types of words that can easily incite violence among a crowd if just one person in that crowd has minimal self-control. Words are very powerful, and one should always be very careful how one uses them.
Talk to the people who are doing this to our country. There are some of us who don't agree with the changes that are taking place; Who are appalled at what we can not, indeed, BETTER not ,do.I know...talk to the Liberals. But be careful....they don't take responsibilty for the results of their actions.
It seems that he would like to see the law turned over to religious interests. Fine by me that he loves God so much, but to attempt to dictate other people's views on the subject is wrong. I personally would not want to live by rules he makes up according to his religion
To believe in God, and to rant like this, it is horrid. Do not be so bold as to assume what God believes or thinks. The world needs evil to highlight good. Not to mention the end of times are supposed to be inevitable, what does it matter of a decadent society then? Do not fear the evil, acknowledge it. However, don't look towards Heaven for change if you believe the end is near. 'Cause guess who decided there would be an end time.
There is beauty and there is despair - - we have all seen both.. There are also differing viewpoints which require tolerance and understanding..





So, let me answer your question w/a question - - Why is it that religions, which are supposed to be abt love create so much anger and bring out so much ugliness in people?
I see where he's coming from about the morality issues that our country has today, but I don't agree with him that it's because we've turned away from God. You don't have to be religious to be a good person, and you don't have to be a good person to be religious, either. I think he's a little close-minded and maybe if he spent less time praying and writing poems and more time actually doing things to help he'd see things a little differently.
Separate church and state!

Very menacing mixture of god-fearing, bogeyman-coming-to-get-ya and over-sentimentalized, flag-waving jingoism.





It has always intrigued me the way that people presume to read the thoughts of god; and guess what? He's usually angry about something!! 'Sanctimonious' doesn't cover the half of it.......
I think it's just another stupid rant, like the thousands floating around the internet already, about how this country is going to hell if we don't 'get back to god' .





It's neither inspiring nor inspired, it's really rather poorly written and it goes on far too long.
I sincerely hope (but somehow doubt) that this guy respects the division of church and state.





If he's the rare case who does just that I have no problem with him writing poetry or expressing himself anyway he pleases, in fact, if that's what this is, more power to him. But I'd be amazed if this self-righteous religious dogma doesn't permeate his decision making at work, and I find that prospect quite frightening and objectionable.
