Any ideas on what's wrong with my hand and any tips on treating it?

Lately, my left hand has been hurting a lot. I've been playing my guitar quite often, but i've done that before. This time, every time I try to do a bar chord, it feels like a muscle in my wrist and my thumb is being pulled towards my elbow. It makes a sharp shooting pain as long as my hand is like that. When you do a bar chord, you use your index finger, so i've been trying to build up some strength in that finger. That may be why it's hurting. I know that learning how to play the guitar is sort of a painful process, but all of the time i've been playing, it's never hurt this much. I'm scared to even try a bar chord or do anything strenuous with my left hand. Luckily, you don't form guitar chords with your dominant hand (which is my right) so I don't have to worry about not being able to write. What do you think is wrong with it?Any ideas on what's wrong with my hand and any tips on treating it?
It seems you are on the guitar for very long periods and you are suffering from cramps. When they occur stop playing (practising) for a while.

With your dominant hand manipulate the cramped hand, moving it round until the cramp subsides. Try applying a soothing cream like Arnica Gel and massage it in gently.

Hope to hear you in the charts soon.Any ideas on what's wrong with my hand and any tips on treating it?
You hand is probably not used to being in that awkward position anymore that is why it probably has been hurting. If the pain gets worse then I suggest going to a doctor in case you strained or pulled something.I hope it stops hurting!!
could be a tendonitis of sorts... strengthen it... try to use clay or silly putty and do some pinching with it. might help. if not, see a doc and see if they have any recommendations
